LL9: Local Heritage Assets
Policy Intent:
This policy idea seeks to identify and protect buildings that have local heritage interest because of their architecture or historic connections ( but are not already listed) .
Identifying them will raise the awareness of developers that a building has some local heritage interest that should be given proper attention in the design of their proposals. For each building (or structure) the policy will have to describe the essential features of that local interest to ensure that they meet the criteria for allocation, which is set out by Historic England.
As part of the evidence gathering for this policy area, we would like local residents to nominate buildings which they think may meet the criteria due to their archaeological, architectural, artistic
or historic interest.
The Central Bedfordshire Local Plan contains a relevant policy HE3: Listed Buildings, Conservation Areas and Built Heritage which seeks to protect designated and non-designated heritage assets of local importance. By creating a Local List of non-designated heritage assets in theNeighbourhood Plan this will provide local definition to this high-level policy. The Local List should seek to deliver quality over quantity and consider the finest examples for inclusion.
